Grocery Rescue Program

Six days a week, the food bank ‘rescues’ food that is nearing its expiration date from community grocery stores. This includes fresh produce, dairy products, bakery and canned goods, meat, and non-food items. The rescued food is then taken back to the food bank, processed, and distributed to our community in need. Through our rescue program, we collect and process over 1.5 million pounds of nutritious food every year. It is through this program that we collect 90% of the food we need for our programs.

3rd Avenue Market

The Post Falls Food Bank’s 3rd Avenue Market provides an abundance of fresh produce, dairy, and meat products for our guests. In addition to healthy choices at the Market, the Food Bank offers classes on nutrition, eating well on a budget, and healthy food preparation. These classes are provided at no charge to our guests. Recipe cards provided by Eat Smart Idaho can be found in the Food Bank lobby. Pick out a recipe and shop for the ingredients in the Market. What could be easier!

Case Management

Rarely do the guests we serve enter our door with just one need, food. There are usually several challenging situations that our guests are dealing with at any given time. We provide a Case Manager to help our guests navigate the social services network and find the help they need in Kootenai County.

3rd Avenue Senior Café Lunches

Wednesdays and Fridays are senior lunch days at the 3rd Avenue Café! Chef Harvey creates beautiful and tasty dishes which are served to all seniors that call and book their spot ahead of time. During this time, our seniors get to socialize, get informed about happenings in the community, and sometimes even watch a performance done by local musicians or students from one of our local schools.

Senior Sit & Sip

Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9 am and 11 am, our seniors can enjoy pastries, coffee, tea, and an open space to visit at the 3rd Avenue Senior Café. Our Case Manager Lori is also available during this time to answer any questions about resources in our community.

Senior Enrichment

We are working on our activities schedule, so stay tuned! Bingo, card games, crafts and more to come!

Home Delivered Meals Support

We provide case management support & volunteer drivers for the Home Delivered Meals program in our area which delivers meals to homebound seniors.

Food Share

Because of our strong Grocery Rescue Program, the Food Bank can share excess food with other food banks, community meal sites, and non-profit organizations throughout northern Idaho. Some of the agencies that we support with our food are: Real Life Ministries Food Room and Meal Program, St Georges Catholic Church Friendship Kitchen, Cherished One’s Soup Kitchen, St Vincent de Paul Warming Shelter, Children’s Village, the Wallace Food Bank, Second Chance Ministries, and the American Legion.

Weekend Backpack Program

The Food Bank works closely with the Post Falls School District to provide weekend food for 150-200 students. These are children who are living at or below the federal poverty level and are at risk of not getting enough to eat over the weekend. Nutritionally balanced food is identified specifically for this program. The food packs are purchased by the 3rd Avenue Marketplace and assembled by volunteers at Calvary Lutheran Church.
